Dissertation dilemmas

I am having some issues regarding my dissertation and finding the correct info I need . I am in the middle of writing a set of questionnaires that will target 3 different social groups. Art & design students, design professional and the general public. Is this enough groups or should I do more ? How people do I need to ask ? Would interviews be more informative ?

Once I know the direction of the questions I think it will help me form the basis of my text . . Or at least I hope it does !

Better get my head down and you might hear from me soon asking you some questions !

Freerange london

Well that's me on my way home from free range in London . Was a good experience to see other degree standard work and a gave me an opportunity to learn what is expected of me over the coming year ! Bricklane was amazing. The atmosphere on Bricklane is like no other. Students, artists, punks, market owners, designers etc all come together in this small street and it is fascinating to see . I am looking forward to future visits to London and eventually perhaps finding myself being part of this exciting culture !

The journey home from London is my first of many . . .

Intercontinental Hotel London

The Intercontinental Hotel in London is the live site we were given for this project. We were asked to come up with a 5* quality room with an interactive twist. My inspiration was minimal, white, industrial, and compact. Trying to include these into a 5* room can be difficult as they are not normally associated with high quality finishes. This was my challenge.

International trip to Lugano Switzerland G.I.D.E

Accommodation in lugano. Very small, but comfortable.

View of the hills from lugano pier

Our exhibition was on the red cross which was founded by a Swiss. We wanted to show the link between switzerland by showing the flag on the ground, and the connection between the people in the red cross. This shown by then lifting mechanism that you use to get the final effect of the exhibit.

Design for Innovative communities

Project 2 - Year 3

For this project we were given a brief which was also given to 7 other design schools who are part of the educational group GIDE. The idea is to the brief and change it to fit in with something in your area. In our case Whinny Brae was a local street in Broughty Ferry, Dundee and we were given the brief to redesign the Brae.

As you can see from the image below, the hill is a major part of the problem as it is currently very difficult to get from A to B because of the incline. We began to research and develop ideas of what we would do and some of the work is below.

Refurbish the Cantina project - Interior Design

Project boards updated . . . .

Year 3 - project 1

The brief was given to us for this project by the president of DUSA ( Dundee University Student Association ) and they were asking us to design a concept for a refurbishment of the canteen.

The initial influence I had was nature and I ran with that through my development until refining it to a mature conclusion. My design contains a mixture of concrete flooring, wooden benches, abstract windows and a undulating beam system. I wanted a simple layout and the key features of the design would show through creating a more exciting place to socialize.
